Cupping (TCM) & Gua Sha in Zurich

Cupping is a proven therapeutic pillar in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). According to the theory of Far Eastern healing medicine, cupping helps to purify the mind and body. This is very important for recovery and maintaining health. Heat, dampness and harmful substances in the body are considered to be the causal reason of many diseases, disorders and ailments.

How does cupping work?

In cupping, the therapist places cupping glasses on individually selected acupuncture or meridian points. Gentle stimulation on the surface of the body through negative pressure is said to have a positive effect on processes inside the body. Chinese medicine assumes that internal organs such as the liver, kidney, spleen and intestines can also be reached via meridians. Cupping stimulates the subcutaneous tissue at selected acupuncture points. Stimulates the flow of blood and lymph. Thus, the blocked energy flows again. The body finds its balance again – the self-healing powers are activated. Diseases and ailments improve or even disappear.

Proven to eliminate ailments caused by “dampness”

Ailments caused by too much heat and humidity include: Rheumatism, joint diseases and pains, migraine, allergies and skin diseases such as neurodermatitis or acne. Cupping can also be used for acute symptoms

Cupping for sports injuries and tensions

Cupping has proven effective for sports injuries or any form of tension. During the treatment, the hardening of the subcutaneous tissue and muscle tissue is effectively loosened. Areas that the massage handle cannot reach can be treated with it. Great results can also be achieved with a few treatments for long-term injuries or chronic pain.

Part of the holistic therapy concept

Often, just a few treatments are enough. Cupping is part of a combined treatment concept that our TCM therapists always create individually for the patient and their needs.

Gua Sha a scraping method from TCM

Gua Sha means “gua” = scraping and “sha” = redness and belongs to the massage and drainage techniques of TCM. It promotes blood circulation, thus the local metabolism and tightens the skin.

Scraping involves using the rounded edge of a porcelain spoon or stone spatula to scrape the surface of the skin back and forth several times until the skin turns red. This slight bleeding signals the body to focus on healing the reddened area. The healing process is accelerated.

The Gua Sha massage session lasts 20-30 minutes. Toxins are eliminated. Meridian congestion or blockages in different parts of the body become visible through different skin redness. Depending on the depth of the blockage, the skin redness becomes darker and larger. Patients experience a relaxing effect from the Gua Sha technique through purification and increased circulation.
